The flotation of Friends Provident plc on the UK Stock Market
in July 2001 raised £1.6 billion (US$2.9 billion) of
new capital, significantly raising the capital base
of Friends Provident Group as well as placing it firmly
in the FTSE 100.
This capital base was further increased by the acquisition of Royal & SunAlliance International Financial Services in 2002, now renamed Friends Provident International Limited and more recently by the acquisition of Lombard International Assurance SA in 2004.
